Lessons from Usain Bolt

# 1 — Accept the fact that you are not perfect.

It’s important to focus on your strength. Usain Bolt knows that the best part of his race in a 100 m sprint are the last 50 meters and not the start, so he focuses on those. He knows that he is not perfect, even though he is the fastest runner in the world by running the 100 m in 9.58 seconds. What matters is winning and he is a strong finisher rather than a strong starter.

# 2 — You don’t need to be a workaholic.

He doesn’t consider himself as a workaholic. However, he realises that when the moment comes that matters, he needs to work. He doesn’t feel as if training would be fun, but he knows that he has to work for it. Once the race comes, he knows that he can have fun and relax.

# 3 — Set yourself goals and aim high.

Bolt’s goal was to become a living legend and he didn’t hold back in announcing it to the world. Most of the people don’t have concrete goals because they think they will not achieve great things in life and are happy by living a mediocre life. If you set your goals specifically, measure your progress in the process and set a deadline for your achievement, you will be more successful.

# 4 — Never let anyone make fun of your goals and dreams.

Usain Bolt is a winner because he never doubted himself, he always strongly believed in himself. Be open to learn from others but never allow anyone to make fun of you and your dreams. He actually felt always pushed and even more motivated if he had to deal with doubters.

# 5 — Don’t turn up worrying.

Usain strongly believes that worrying doesn’t get you anywhere. If you are already worried before the race starts, you have already lost. All you need to do is to work hard, turn up, give your best when running and the rest will happen automatically. You need to focus on the end of the race, not the start.

# 6 — Look at others as spiders.

When Usain Bolt runs, he imagines as if all other runners would be big spiders. And what happens afterwards you can imagine….. he gets highly scared and runs as fast as he can.

# 7 — Never underestimate your competitors.

Treat all your rivals equally. Usain never used to single out any competitor.
