As I pursued more ventures, my time was quickly getting squeezed into a small bottle. I felt stressed out and was great at doing many things mediocrely. I knew I needed extra time because I felt like I was being as productive as possible. This knowledge resulted in my outsourcing some of my tasks to freelancers. Outsourcing has opened up countless hours of my time and allowed me to pursue new ventures that I could have never pursued without outsourcing.

This advice goes along with the outsourcing. The challenge with opportunities is that it’s tempting to go after several opportunities at once. The world is filled with many opportunities. While that’s a good thing, it’s also possible for some people to drown in that opportunity. It’s better to master one thing than it is to be mediocre at 10 things. My social media journey began with my quest to master every social network. It was a disaster. I then decided to focus all of my time on Twitter. Once I mastered that social network, it was much easier for me to master the other social networks. Outsourcing prevented me from overextending myself and spreading my time too thin.

I can firmly say that I enjoy the work that I do. In fact, I don’t see it as work. I see my work as fun. The work I am proudest of started as stretch goals that seemed very challenging if not impossible when I first thought of them. It doesn’t make much of a difference to me if I went from 1,000 Twitter followers to 1,001 Twitter followers within one day. I set a goal to surpass 100,000 Twitter followers in five years. That was a stretch goal that seemed impossible but ignited the fire within my soul. I ended up passing 100,000 Twitter followers far faster than I would have ever thought. According to my five year plan, I would have surpassed 100,000 Twitter followers in the middle of 2017. I currently have 300,000 Twitter followers.

I approach my work and life with an optimistic mindset. An optimistic mindset allows me to see the possibility within all of the goals I give myself. Just because you are moving around and about does not mean you are being productive. I define productivity as putting in the work specifically directed towards a goal you have a strong desire to accomplish. Anything that pulls you away from your goal is busy work. Of course, if you view spending time with your loved ones as busy work, then your work-life balance will collapse and you never want that to happen. With this new view of productivity, I realized that scheduling my tweets was necessary busy work. Since I saw it as necessary but also as busy work, I outsourced that task to one of my freelancers.

My ability to take rapid action is one of the reasons I am successful.

I’m not going to lie about this. The entrepreneurial journey is tough. While it’s got many benefits and joyous moments, there are also disappointments and moments of distress. Persisting through those dull moments will present a challenge, but by persisting, you get closer to the goal you desire to accomplish. I have faced challenge after challenge to get to where I am at. When I first started out, people questioned my expertise because I was ‘too young’. I had no problem with those people rejecting me as long as I never rejected myself. The people who are the best at what they do constantly got rejected on their way to the top and still get rejected to this day. No matter what challenge gets in your way, persistence will see you to victory.
